What Are Popular Kitchen Colours For 2021?

When it comes to kitchen colours and a kitchen renovation, the entire colour palette has been used over the past 60 years, from yellows and greens to greys and whites and everything else in between. There were even one or two years where black was trendy!

Since we are in a new year, you might be wondering what are popular kitchen colours for 2021?! This is one of the more important questions to ask yourself before you start your kitchen renovation, before you visit a kitchen showroom, and before you even buy anything. The other two biggest questions you should be asking yourself are:

  • What do I want from my kitchen?
  • What do I want my kitchen to “say” when people walk into it.

In terms of what you want from your kitchen; do you want a place to hang out even when you aren’t eating? Is it important that your space be a cool place for friends and family to congregate at parties? Or do you want something else entirely?!

If you often have people over or you want to be THAT homeowner that is always trendy and always knows what’s popular, you probably do care about what your kitchen looks like. If you want to WOW people, choosing the right brands, the right colours, and the right accessories are probably very important to you.

Before anything else, I want to make it clear that greys are out – finally! Grey was the IN colour for the past 6 or so years so if you are trying to take a safe bet, grey is not the color you should be choosing. However, there are “infused” colours that are in this year. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of these options.

The Colour Green

When you think about what are popular kitchen colours for 2021 you might not automatically think of the colour green. Green comes in several different hues and tones, but for 2021; Bluish-green, Mint Green, Sage Green, Olive Green, Hunter Green, and Apple Green are the ones that are trending right now.

This is great because it gives you variables for your kitchen renovation. So if you absolutely want to keep your kitchen trendy, but HATE olive green, you can easily go with another option.

The Colour Blue

Blue is a fantastic colour because depending on what hue you choose, it can help open a room up. It works the same way white does in that it creates the illusion that the space is bigger than it actually is.

On the other hand, if you already have a large kitchen and want to make it cozier, darker blues would help create a smaller or cozier space. Dark blue works the same way that dark black does, it creates the illusion that the space is smaller.

So what are popular kitchen colours for 2021 when it comes to the colour blue? That would include; Pastel Blue, Navy Blue, Turquoise, and of course Indigo. Some of you might consider Indigo more of a purple colour and you would be right because it mixes both blue and violet together.

The Colour Pink

At first thought, pink might not even come into mind when thinking about a kitchen renovation. But, one of the biggest reasons the colour pink, especially muted pink, is so popular in 2021 is because of something I spoke about at the start of this article. Many homeowners have gone with the grey paint scheme at some point over the past 6 years.

These might be people that aren’t ready or willing to change that grey colour into something else. Instead of changing it, they use pink (or other accent colours) to create a brand new scheme. Pink and grey also go well together, specifically a colour like Old Rose which has an almost mauve colour to it.

The Colour Brown

The colour brown, specifically coffee brown is trendy this year. Even if you don’t want your kitchen to feel too boxed in and you don’t want to paint your entire kitchen brown – which I wouldn’t suggest anyway, you can add details to the kitchen with coffee brown that would still allow your kitchen to look trendy. Three of the easiest ways to go about this when you are doing your kitchen renovation are:

– Accent Colours Via Paint

– Accent Colours Via Backsplashes

– Accent Colours Via New Cabinets

Accent colours in paint would be around the door trim, one accent wall (a focal wall), shelving, etc.

Accent colours via a backsplash are really fun. In the case of coffee brown, you can either make the whole backsplash coffee brown or incorporate a pattern or image with that type of brown.

Accent colours via new cabinets is another easy way because it allows you to create a focal point, like with the accent wall, but more functionally.

Infused Grey Colours

While grey is out and is no longer considered trendy, there are infused grey colours that are. This means that they are variations of grey, with enough of another colour added to them that they are no longer considered “just” grey. These grey variations would include:

Greyed Green which of course include some type of green with grey. For example, a colour called Bonsai Suede uses olive green with grey to create a brand new trendy colour.

Greyed Blue includes blue paint along with grey paint. A colour named Dusk uses a pale blue with a light grey.

How exactly do you go about choosing colours and seeing which one works for you and your home? If you’re not about to go and buy a gallon of paint for $50, which is understandable, the easiest way to find the right colours for your kitchen is by simply visiting a kitchen showroom. A showroom will not only have “colour” sample cards that you can take home, but a kitchen showroom could give you even more ideas of what schemes would look good for your kitchen renovation – ideas you may not have even considered. It could get your creative juices flowing, so to speak.

Hopefully, this blog helps you out when it comes to asking yourself what are popular kitchen colours for 2021! In the end, the only thing that really matters is that you are happy!
